This is taking a flower bed or raised bed and transforming it into a floral display.

The picture below is me starting to prepare the bed, this is about October to November time, the ideal time to working on beds for myself is durring the colder wet months, this makes the soil soft and a bit more digable if you know what I mean.

My tip here is: to sharpen the cutting end of your spade, a proper gardening spade for turning clods should be straight and the handle should be fairly long for you to have good levarage, and ensure the pan of the spade front and back is clean, I mean spotless, no concrete, no tarmac, no rust, if your spade is clean the wet earth will slide off much easier.

Personally I like part of my borders to be providing colour all year round so here I have planted a holly in the middle with two hebe's on the outside, so these little shrubs will provide some colour when the seasons change and the flowers come to an end.

And here is the same bed in mid September (the 16th 2021 if your a bit like me for detail), the flowers that I planted in May  are now into there Autumn plumage and in the next 4 to 6 weeks they will need to be taken out and it all starts again with the preperation of digging over for next year.
